Help us weather the uncertain future

We know — the economic times are hard. We believe that our work of reporting on the critical stories unfolding right now is more important than ever.

We need to raise $6,000 to meet our goal by August 10. If you’re able to make a contribution of any amount, your dollars will make an immediate difference in helping ensure the future of local journalism in Dallas. Thanks for reading the Dallas Observer.

If you're someone who enjoys a good laugh picked out for you by television viewers then go see the finalists from the sixth and most recent season of NBC's Last Comic Standing perform live at Bass Performance Hall in Fort Worth. If you haven't seen it, Last Comic Standing is a reality show that features comedians from all over the world competing for live audiences. The final winner is decided by call-in votes from viewers. This tour features last season's winner, Iliza Shlesinger, the first woman to ever win the competition, and wouldn't you know it--she is a Dallas native! Four finalists will also appear--Marcus, Jeff Dye, Louis Ramey and Jim Tavare. Shlesinger won a $250,000 grand prize that includes an exclusive talent deal with NBC, a new Honda and a starring appearance in Jubilee! at Bally's Las Vegas. The finalists will each perform sets of stand-up, more lengthy--and, from what I hear, decidedly more "blue"--than they were permitted to perform on network television. It promises to be a night of varied and at least mediocre laughs. Join the fun 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Bass Hall, Fourth and Calhoun streets in Fort Worth. Tickets are $27 to $57. Call 877-212-4280 or visit basshall.com.
