We all love stuff. As George Carlin says, stuff is the reason people need houses. Houses are just a place to keep all your stuff while you go out and get…more stuff! And isn't art, in its simplest form, just stuff you like to look at? Except it's not called stuff in the art world; stuff is "objects." In fact, UTD hosts an art exhibit called Object this week. It's a mixed-media exhibit, which means there's a whole bunch of different stuff. According to the school's Web site, "All art-objects are always already embedded, engaged, polluted and hybrid. And those that resist this tangible and human reality are humdrum and unworthy of our attention." Sounds like as good a justification as any to glue Barbie shoes to the wall or lynch stuffed animals. Object opens with a reception from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and runs through February 16 in the Visual Arts Building at UTD, 800 W. Campbell Road in Richardson. Admission is free. Call 972-UTD-ARTS.
Sat., Jan. 13, 6:30-9 p.m.; Jan. 13-Feb. 16
