I've never quite understood the appeal of drag shows. If you're a gay male, why would you want to see men trying to pose as hot women? Wouldn't you prefer they pose as hot men? And if you're a straight man, why would you want to attend a pageant at all? What, was Pottery Barn closed that day? The same logic, more or less, goes for straight women. Why exactly would they want to see men in drag? I wouldn't want to see women in drag. The only group I could kinda sorta see appreciating a drag show would be lesbians, but unless "Closer to Fine" is playing somewhere in the background, they're probably the least likely of all groups to be mixing it up with men in drag. Anyhow, if you want to try to understand the elusive appeal of these sorts of pageants, take in the drag performance (benefiting the AIDS Resource Center of Dallas) this Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the University of Texas at Dallas Conference Center, 2601 N. Floyd Road in Richardson. Call 972-235-7765 or visit homageutd.org.
