Shug's Bagels

Neighborhood: Park Cities
Shug's owner, Justin Shugrue, is a Westchester County native who moved to Dallas to attend Southern Methodist University. After getting his finance degree, the career didn't suit him. That coupled with the fact that he not only loved bagels but also worked at bagel bodegas back east led him to open this spot near SMU.

On Saturday mornings the line wraps around the building for these kettle-boiled bagels that are seasoned on both sides. Try the Spicy Shug — bacon, egg and pepperjack cheese with a hash brown and hot sauce on a roll.

Shug’s has seven additional classic sandwiches, including a Reuben, chicken salad bagel, grilled cheese and a pizza bagel. They also offer breakfast sandwiches with a variety of meats and cheeses and have three types of bagels and lox — classic, gravlax and pastrami lox.

The day we visited they offered poppy, salt, whole wheat, onion, sesame, egg, egg everything, everything and plain. But a flavor is gone for the day once it sells out.

Shug's After Dark is a new concept that is open for late-night munchies.
